Haruko SOGA
Born in Tokyo.
I am an artist based in Milan, Italy. My theme behind this production is “inside and outside of humans.” Through drawing the facades of people, I attempt to reveal their innermost feelings, and ultimately, express my own.I believe that authentic emotion is hidden deep within us, inaccessible to others from the outside. It is the most delicate feelings, such as sorrow, resentment, or loss, that drive me to express myself. Because our bodies and skin cover these emotions, I use female portraits, rather than abstraction, to show these unseen feelings.I articulate my hidden passion through gentle, feminine lines. These days, I’ve adopted dual-layer drawings, using pencils and translucent paper to convey the delicacy of emotions. On the lower layer, I place inner feelings, and on the upper, human figures, to expose the way our bodies obscure our feelings. I intend to pursue this method of expression, applying philosophy and psychology to deepen my expressions of the human mind, which is my artistic theme.
